The Clarence Valley is a picturesque area in the north eastern corner of the state of New South Wales which stretches from Illuka and Yamba in the north to Wooli in the south and west to Grafton. The 130km drive from the seaside holiday town of Ballina to the city of Grafton is a pleasant and scenic journey that will give you a taste of what the region has to offer, pristine rainforests, majestic waterways and welcoming locals.
The area is ideally suited to a campervan rental Australia driving holiday as it has a number of quaint towns, a diverse cultural heritage as well as astonishingly beautiful natural surrounds. Whether you plan on staying for a while or are simply passing through there are many activities to enjoy and attractions to visit.
Minnie Water is a small secluded coastal village, 14km north of Wooli, nestled between the Yuragir National park and the Solitary Island Marine Reserve. The town offers solitude and a quiet lifestyle that is ideal for families and those looking for peace and quiet. The main beach is patrolled by the local surf club during the summer months giving parents of young children peace of mind.
Holiday makers will appreciate the convenience of having a fully equipped campervan hire vehicle while camping in Minnie Waters. While the town is small with limited facilities you will have everything you need at your finger tips. Stock up at the nearest town centre before taking up roost in this quiet little holiday town.
While visiting Minnie Waters there are many fun holiday activities to do such as diving, fishing, sailing, surfing, swimming or bushwalking, all of this in one of the most peaceful and laid back towns in the area. From Minnie Waters you can easily reach the picnic areas, walking tracks and camp sites inside the Yuraygir National park.
Located to the north-west of Grafton is the rugged Clarence Gorge, home to thundering waterfalls and raging rapids, deep fresh water pools and rolling streams. The scenery is simply stunning and the fishing is fantastic. There are three main waterfalls and on sunny days the aptly named Rainbow Falls lives up to its name.
Visitors may choose to take a guided 4wd tour of the area or simply stay overnight at one of the properties that line the gorge. These properties operate as farm stay businesses and visitors should ensure they have arranged their visit in advance. Campervan rental travellers will be well equipped for their stay, the well appointed interior will make your stay very comfortable.
This secluded beach is nestled deep in the Yuraygir National Park and provides a picture perfect location to enjoy the water, wildlife and spectacular beach front rainforest views. The beach stretches for dozens of kilometres and is at the northern tip of the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Keen anglers often come here with dreams of landing that dream catch.
Nymboida National Park
This large, remote and undeveloped National Park covers a vast area of 31,000ha and contains some truly dramatic landscapes. It is famous for the high grade white-water rafting conditions where the two wild rivers the Nymboida and the Mann meet. The river is surrounded by rainforest and undisturbed bushland of the National Park. For overnight stays in the area, camping and cabin accommodation is available. The soothing combination of the river and the rainforest make this a particularly beautiful spot to stay overnight in one of our campervan rentals.
This town is the gateway to the Clarence Valley for anyone travelling from the west, from areas like the New England Tablelands. Overlooking the mighty Mann River Jackadgery is a popular place for gold panning, fishing, canoeing, and bushwalking. It is also a popular pit stop for travellers along the scenic drives to Walshpool or Gibraltar Range National Park, Cangai, Hanging Rock, Newbold Lookout and Companhurst. If you have time to explore the region in your campervan hire vehicle we strongly recommended visiting some of these equally stunning National Parks.
